The EU is rapidly advancing new legislation on the use of solar power in public and commercial buildings. This will significantly increase the need for energy storage.

“Solar energy plays a major role in the EU’s RepowerEU plan, which aims to become independent from Russian fossil fuels,” says Enico CEO Marko Lähteenmäki about the legislative proposal.
“
Solar energy has the potential to become the largest energy source for industry and households.
According to the new law, all new buildings with roof areas over 250 m² must have solar panels starting in 2026. Older buildings are also affected from 2027 onward.
“There are estimates that Finland could reach up to 8 GW of solar capacity by 2029 to support and accelerate this legislation. These policies will have a huge impact on energy storage systems. The EU proposal also encourages investments in energy storage solutions. Besides storing solar energy for rainy days, energy storage is needed to support the grid during peak consumption,” Lähteenmäki continues.
“Energy storage has many uses, and it’s wise to explore early on the possibility to participate in reserve markets with your storage system. This can provide immediate returns on investment. Our Enico energy storage solutions are ready to join Fingrid’s reserve market through our EMS service. I encourage contacting us already when planning solar panels, so you get optimal benefits from the solar power plant and open new earning opportunities,” Lähteenmäki concludes.
