Risto Nupponen, CEO of Höyrytys Oy, smiles broadly as one of the three MobileESS energy storage units delivered by Enico is leaving the yard to be deployed at a customer site.
“
We are building our own so-called fleet. We initially acquired three energy storage units from Enico for our use.
Practically, the energy storage units are connected to a transformer on the premises of our facilities and participate in Fingrid’s reserve market, generating revenue for us. When needed, we can disconnect a unit from the reserve and rent it out for temporary use, for example at construction sites or events where our customers require additional temporary power or peak load balancing. This model works well for us because when the storage units are not generating rental income, we still earn from Fingrid’s reserve market. Seasonal revenues from the reserve market can even exceed rental income. On a monthly basis, we are talking about sums reaching five digits. So the energy storage units are never just sitting idle.
“We offer comprehensive energy production solutions for various energy sources along with related expert services for the industry. We design energy production plants for our customers that can utilize electricity as well as gaseous and liquid fuels. Hybrid solutions are also part of our expertise. Energy storage complements our other offerings and allows us to meet our customers’ rapid and temporary electricity needs even in challenging locations. This summer, our energy storage units were used at the Helsinki Tall Ships Race to power sailboats in the harbor. Demand in the events sector is growing, while electrification of construction machinery is just getting started,” Nupponen concludes.
